Shadow looks at his surroundings; what he sees is not what a normal wolf would see. Shadow sees everything with two point of views: an optimistic view, and a realistic view. Shadow's body brushed against a willow as he travelled slowly through this land. The willow nearest to him was covered in slime and rut. Shadow, at first sees the tree as it would look in the spring: the leaves would sprout, the sunshine would create a beautiful display of patterned shadows, the animals would use it as a place of refuge. This view flees quickly as the realistic picture comes into view. Shadow sees the world, the way wolves and other animals alike have become so corrupt, similar in ways to the grime on the branches.
Shadow would have continued to inwardly battle himself for which view would remain dominant, but Shadow wasn't here to ponder philosophy. Shadow was here, looking for his siblings. Ever since the great windstorm separated Shadow from his family, he has been on a neverending search for what he hopes remains of his family. Shadow stopped his search breifly to claim the YumeHaru territory as his own. Shadow wanted nothing more than to start his pack with his siblings at his side, leading the world on a new track, one that leads to peace and light.
Shadow's realistic side knows however, that such a state is morally impossible in a world as corrupt as ours. Nonetheless, Shadow searches for his family, with the hidden wish of making his pack of one member thrive.
Perhaps what Shadow is looking for isn't merely his family; perhaps Shadow is searching any cure whatsoever for this loneliness he feels. Whatever the reason that Shadow is here, and not in the beautiful forest territory that is YumeHaru, doesn't matter. Shadow is here, and Shadow is real; this is the truth that Shadow knows.~
Shadow wanders for a while, searching under each willow he comes upon, hoping each time, that he finds his redemption. To no avail, Shadow continues this process for several hours before entering a small willow.
Shadow, from the inside of the willow creates a howl like no other. Its volume could have shaken any opponent, and its emotion cut like a knife. This cry of desparation yelled "I'm here" over and over again, as the willow's branches promulgated Shadow's sound.
After this explosion of sound, Shadow lies down and begins to rest. Shadow drifts off into a semi-sleep state, his dreams filled with memories of both joy and regret.
Shadow's partial slumber is broken when he hears the crack of a branch. "Who's there?" Shadow asked, his mind and voice now clear. Shadow's eyes soften when a rabbit hops into the safety of the willow. The rabbit's eyes turn to Shadow, at first with fear, but then with unconcern as it realizes Shadow's sincere unconcern. "Now what brings a fellow like you all the way out here?" Shadow said, kindly, his voice not rising or falling.
As the rabbit forrages for a moment or so, Shadow watches, not concerned with the fact that his stomach begged for the prey sitting before him. As the rabbit leaves the willow, Shadow rests his head on his paws. Soon..Soon.. Were Shadow's thoughts before falling into his dreams once again.
